WWE signs Evie

We can confirm that WWE has signed 28 year old New Zealand wrestler Evie to a developmental deal with the company.

Evie received a tryout with the company back in August of 2014 when the company toured Australia and most recently was used as an enhancement talent on NXT in October of 2015 when she faced off against Nia Jax in a losing effort.

On 6th December 2015, Evie made her debut for the Japanese World Wonder Ring Stardom promotion. In her first match she won the vacant Artist of Stardom Championship alongside Hiroyo Matsumoto and Kellie Skater. They lost the title to Io Shirai, Kairi Hojo and Mayu Iwatani in their third defense.

She alongside her Team Slap Happy teammate Heidi Lovelace won the SHIMMER Tag Team titles on volume 84 in a fatal four way tag team match. The duo held the title for 140 days before losing the titles on Volume 89 to Tessa Blanchard and Vanessa Kraven.

Alongside those promotions she is also a member of Pro Wrestling Alliance in Sydney, Australia where she is a former PWWA champion. Evie is a former member of the Impact Pro Wrestling roster in New Zealand, where she is a former three times IPW Womens Champion, the most in the promotions history.

Just when I thought that 2016 couldn’t possibly get any worse, it goes and does something like this… and TOTALLY REDEEMS ITSELF!

Wrestling fans have been saying for years that they should be signing up women from the independent scene and it is starting that 2017 that things are finally looking up with a smile in the women division and it is not looking down and frown upon like it was before.

It’s not just starting, WWE has been signing women from the independent scene since 2002, just not as frequently as they are now. Gail Kim, Angel Williams, Mickie James, Jillian Hall, Melina, Shelly Martinez, Beth Phoenix, Katie Lea, Trinity, Krissy Vaine, Tracy Taylor, Shantelle Taylor, AJ Lee, Serena Deeb, Tenille Tayla, Su Yung, Britani Knight, Ivelisse Velez, Mercedes KV, Davina Rose are all names from the indies that were signed to development contracts and most have went on to be amazing talents for WWE and/or TNA in past decade. People seem to forget about the women who paved the way for the girls today no matter what direction the “Divas” were going in at the time. Yeah they signed some fitness/bikini models in the past, but that does not mean we should discredit them just because they weren’t from the indies. Michelle McCool, Eve Torres and Layla are prime examples you can come from the Diva Search contest and make a name for yourself in the industry.
