Wrestler of the Year 2017 | Toni Storm

As the year 2017 comes to an end the Squared Circle Sirens teams will be highlighting different wrestlers from across the globe that we feel have made an impact over the past 365 days! Today we will be looking at Toni Storm!

If you were asking me single-handedly to rank the number one female in 2017, I would have to choose Toni Storm. It’s hard to deny everything that Toni Storm has accomplished in 2017 alone. In all honesty, you can take everything Toni Storm has done in 2017, and some women won’t accomplish it in their career, and in all honesty, where hasn’t she been?

Toni Storm came into 2017 a regular for STARDOM, and this year continued to be a big one for Toni. Toni came in to 2017 with the SWA Undisputed World Women’s title, and still hasn’t dropped the title. She has defeated the likes of Viper, Shayna Baszler, Jungle Kyona, Jessicka Havok, Xia Brookside, Mandy Leon, and Bea Priestley all on STARDOM events. Toni also defended the championship at Rise 6.5, defeating Shotzi Blackheart before defending the title AWS against Dust.

Toni continued the accomplishments in STARDOM in the Cinderella Tournament, defeating Rebel, Tessa Blanchard and subsequently Mayu Iwatani in the final to win the Cinderella Tournament. Toni was also a participant in the 5STAR Grand Prix, defeating Jungle Kyona, HZK, Konagi, Tam Nakano, and Kay Lee Ray and going to a time limit draw with Io Shirai to win her block and head into the final against Yoko Bito, where she would defeat Bito in the final and win the Grand Prix as well.

Toni Storm would also capture the World of Stardom Championship against Mayu Iwatani, albeit by a stoppage due to Mayu’s elbow injury. Toni would defend the World of Stardom Championship against Mercedes Martinez at Rise 6 and still hold the championship.

STARDOM wouldn’t be the only promotion in which Toni Storm would see success. Coming into 2016, Toni Storm would be announced as a participant in PROGRESS Wrestling’s Natural Progression Series, in which the winner would be crowned the first ever PROGRESS Women’s Champion. Toni defeated Bea Priestley in the first round in November of 2016, but would defeat Dahlia Black in the Semi Finals in March of 2017 and head into the finals in May against Jinny and Laura Di Matteo in a huge triple threat match. Toni Storm would capture the PROGRESS Women’s Championship in that match to become the first champion, and defend that title against Laura Di Matteo, Candice LeRae, Dahlia Black, Charli Evans, and Alex Windsor to continue to be the PROGRESS Women’s Champion.

Toni would also be a part of the wXw Femme Fatales 2017 tournament, where she would defeat Jinny in the first round, Wesna in the semi finals and defeat Viper in the finals to be the winner of the tournament.

This wouldn’t be the only tournament we would see Toni Storm be successful in. After being in a WWE Axxess Ring during Wrestlemania Weekend, defeating Jinny. Toni Storm would be a participant in the Mae Young Classic. After defeating Ayesha Raymond in Round One, and Lacey Evans in Round Two, Toni Storm would put on two incredible matches in the Quarterfinals against Viper, and the Semi-Finals were she would finally fall to Kairi Sane.

Toni Storm has had an incredible 2017, being featured all across the UK, being heavily featured in STARDOM, and even for the WWE. Toni Storm’s star is shining brightly, and it seems to be continuing into 2018.
