Wrestler of the Year 2017 | Sammii Jayne

As the year 2017 comes to an end the Squared Circle Sirens teams will be highlighting different wrestlers from across the globe that we feel have made an impact over the past 365 days! Today we will be looking at Sammii Jayne!

2017 has been a great year for women’s wrestling in the United Kingdom.  More shows featuring only women.  More women making waves.  More championship being introduced.  One woman, in particular, has been at the front of the pack is Sammii Jayne.

Sammii Jayne has had the highest profile success with the massively popular Pro Wrestling: EVE, an English all women’s wrestling promotion.  In February, alongside BAE Club partner Debbie Sharp, Jayne earned a victory of then EVE Champion Rhia O’Reilly and partner Laura DiMatteo.  Later that day, Jayne competed against Japanese legend Meiko Satomura.  At XWA in March, Jayne challenged O’Reilly for the EVE Championship twice.  The first ended in a double count out and the second, a no disqualification match, would end with Rhia retaining the title.  In April, O’Reilly was forced to vacate the EVE Championship due to an injury in the latter match with Jayne at XWA.  In May, EVE held a tournament to crown a new Champion.  Sammii had the opportunity to challenge another Japanese legend and former EVE Champion, Emi Sakura, in the opening round and earning the victory.  In the semi-finals, she defeated Rhio and Viper.  In the finals of the tournament, Jayne defeated Kay Lee Ray in a no-disqualification match to become only the seventh woman to hold EVE gold.

Since winning the championship, Sammii has stacked up title defenses against Jetta, Kasey and Leah Owens in a triple threat, Leah Owens, Debbie Sharp in an Anything Goes match, and Debbie Sharp and Kay Lee Ray in another triple threat.  On top of defending her title, Jayne also earned a spot in the SHE-1 tournament to determine the ACE of EVE. She defeated Debbie Sharp to get into the tournament.  During the tournament, she defeated the Session Moth Martina and Jamie Hayter and took a loss to Laura DiMatteo in the first round, before defeating Jamie and Laura in a playoff three way.  Sammii lost in the finals in a triple threat that included Meiko Satomura and tournament victor Charlie Morgan.

Outside of Pro Wrestling: EVE, Sammii has been equally successful. She has earned victories against Sara Marie Taylor, Debbie Sharp, and Jetta to name a few.  In the Scottish promotion, WrestleZone, Jayne, and BAE Club partner Debbie Sharp had a series of matches that ended with Sammii defeating Debbie in a tables match. In September, Sammii defeated Santana Garrett to win the Revolution Championship Wrestling women’s championship. At Discovery Wrestling in November, Sammii defeated WWE Mae Young Classic competitor Ayesha Raymond, Lucy Cole, and Martina to win the vacant Women’s Championship.  Earlier this month, she defeated Little Miss Roxxy in a steel cage match at 3 Count Wrestling.

Sammii Jayne is racking up victories and earning championships all over the United Kingdom.  She is not only a physical threat to her opponents because of her hard-hitting style, but she also is not afraid to yell at audience members that try to chastise her.  Sammii is going places and it only a matter of time before she is making waves here in the United States or over in Japan.
