Anytime you are thinking of a group of women who had a great year in the world of independent wrestling if Lufisto doesn’t come to mind, you are doing it wrong. She has been wrestling for 20 years and impresses crowds every time she steps into a ring.
2017 started with a bang as Lufisto defeated Mercedes Martinez and Allysin Kay in a triple threat match on Shine 40 to win the vacant Shine Championship. Shine 40 was supposed to have Lufisto challenging then-champion Ivelisse. However, when Ivelisse was forced to vacate the title, the main event was changed to the triple threat. Lufisto has defended the championship on a number of occasions at Shine against Ivelisse, Leva Bates, Allysin Kay, Holidead, and Vanessa Kraven. She has also defended the belt outside of Shine at the WWN Supershow against Toni Storm, at VIP Gold Rush in Texas against Machiko, at ZXW2 in Quebec against Kath Von Goth, and at two ACW Shows against Holidead and Trixie Tash. As of this writing, Lufisto is approaching day 350 with the belt. This makes her the longest reigning Shine Champion by a long shot, Ivelisse’s first reign is the second longest at just shy of 300 days.
Shine is not the only place that Lufisto has seen success this year. She has spent a lot of time in Beyond Wrestling. In January, Lufisto formed Team PAWG with fellow hard hitter Jordynne Grace. The pair has picked up wins against Davienne & Mistress Belmont and Alexxis & Taeler Hendrix, as well as a number of Beyond’s male tag teams. Based on their success in Beyond, Team PAWG earned a shot at the Sabotage World Tag Team titles and the Tier 1 Tag Team titles. Team PAWG also took part in in the Tag Team Elimination match at Nova Pro’s 11th Dimension as they were part of the losing Team Faye Jackson.
In other promotions, Lufisto has picked up wins against Hudson Envy, Sonya Strong, AIW Owner John Thorne at AIW’s The Next Episode, Leva Bates, and former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz among others. In International Wrestling Cartel, Lufisto defeated Britt Baker in July to win the IWC Women’s Title. She successfully defended the title in August against Katie Arquette in a steel cage match before losing the belt in October back to Britt Baker. She advanced to the final round of the AWS Women’s tournament in May defeating Solo Darling and Renee Michelle before losing to Ruby Raze in the finals. In October, Lufisto defeated Gabby Ortiz, Katred, and Penelope Ford to win the vacant JAPW Women’s Title, a title only previously held by Sara Del Rey and Kimber Lee, both currently employed by WWE.
Lufisto continues to be a staple in SHIMMER competing against Leva Bates, KC Spinelli Solo Darling, Shotzi Blackheart, and Rachel Ellering, winning all but the match against Solo. In the fall, Lufisto joined forces with Hudson Envy to take on Solo Darling & Thunderkitty as well as the Samantha Heights & Brittany Blake. In RISE, Lufisto made her debut at Rise 5 defeating Layne Rosario and defeating Dust at Rise 6 in a barbed wire bat match.
Although she ended the year on the shelf with an injury, 2018 is already promising to be another great year. She has booked a trip to wrestle in Europe with British Empire Wrestling as a part of the International Grand Prix. She will be defending her Shine Championship against the first Shine Champion, Rain who returned at Shine 47 winning the Survival Battle Royal to become the number 1 contender. Lufisto is one of the most veteran women on the United States independent wrestling scene. She is resistant and determined. She is a star.
