Wrestler of the Year 2017 | Kairi Sane

As the year 2017 comes to an end the Squared Circle Sirens teams will be highlighting different wrestlers from across the globe that we feel have made an impact over the past 365 days! Today we will be looking at Kairi Sane!

When you win the first ever all-women’s tournament in the WWE, that single-handedly could be enough to be classified a Wrestler of the Year. But Kairi Sane’s 2017 is more than a WWE Contract and a Mae Young Classic win.

Yes, Kairi has been very impressive especially using her (non-banned) elbow drop which has captivated the WWE Universe. Prior to being signed in the WWE, Kairi came into 2017 a main-player of STARDOM. When January came around, Kairi was already the Wonder of Stardom (arguably STARDOM’s second major championship) champion for 8 Months, she had just captured the Goddesses Of Stardom (Tag Team) Championship with Yoko Bito the month prior.

Kairi would defend the Goddesses of Stardom championships against Kay Lee Ray and Nixon Newell, before dropping the title in a great tag team match against Hiroyo Matsumoto and Jungle Kyona, Kairi would also defend the Wonder of Stardom title against Jungle Kyona in February, Knoami in March, and Hana Kimora in April before dropping the championship to Mayu Iwatani in a huge match at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

2017 would also see a huge match where STARDOM would have a battle of the two top stars of STARDOM when she challenged for the World of Stardom title against Io Shirai in a 22 minute incredible match, in which although she would fall short, definitely was a match to watch, especially after the two put on a classic in 2015.

In 2017, Kairi, along with Hiromi Miura and Konagi would challenge Queen’s Quest of AZM, HZK, and Io Shirai to capture the Artist of Stardom Championships (a trios tag team championship) in May. As Kairi would be heading to the WWE, Kairi finished out her year in STARDOM in June, where she would drop the Artist of Stardom Title to Queens Quest and then have a Ten on One Gauntlet send-off match.

Kairi Sane has had quite the year in professional wrestling, and after a huge win of the Mae Young Classic and being in a huge NXT TakeOver Four Way for the NXT women’s championship, it seems that Kairi is ready to make a huge splash to the WWE Universe with 2018 looking to be an even bigger year for Kairi.
