As the year 2017 comes to an end the Squared Circle Sirens teams will be highlighting different wrestlers from across the globe that we feel have made an impact over the past 365 days! Today we will be looking at Chelsea Green!
You may know her as Laurel Van Ness, the most exciting thing on Impact. But Chelsea Green is way more than the champagne popping, perfect lipstick wearing character on POP TV. Sure, Laurel is now a Knockouts Champion, a focal point of Impact television for the entire year, but Chelsea Green has also had a huge year on the independent circuit.
Chelsea was a big part of Wrestle Circus, finding herself in the triple threat match to crown the first ever Lady of the Ring champion, although she came up short to Rachael Ellering, Chelsea then had a huge match with Joey Ryan, and although Chelsea may have lost, Laurel Van Ness came back out for a victory over Ryan.
Chelsea also was a consistent Match of the Night participant for Shine Wrestling. In January, she had arguably the match of the night against Rachael Alluring, and again, a match of the night contender in May against Allysin Kay, and then Chelsea had the moment of the year when she replaced Raquel as Santana Garrett’s partner to successfully defend the Shine Tag Team Championships against Kennadi Brink and Vanessa Kraven.
Speaking of tag team championships, Chelsea, along with tag partner Taeler Hendrix would defeat Aja Perera and Kiera Hogan then Nevaeh and Rachael Alluring, and finally the Lucha Sisters of Mia Yim and Leva Bates to capture the first ever Queens of Combat Tag Team Championships.
Chelsea has also been a focal point of RISE and Shimmer, teaming with Britt Baker to form Fire and Nice after a one on one face off at RISE 2. Although they would fall to Rosemary and Angel Dust at Gain 1, they would defeat Jessica Troy and Charli Evans at RISE 3 leading to impressive showings at Shimmer 92-95 defeating Paradise Loss and having two separate Tag Team Title opportunities. Although they would not capture the titles, they solidified themselves as a major tag team for Shimmer. Most recently, Chelsea also had some big singles moments for Shimmer and Rise, facing Cheerleader Melissa, Aoi Kizuki, Priscilla Kelly, ACR, Ayokah and Deonna Purrazzo. Fire and Nice would also defeat Aoi Kizuki and Hiroyo Matsumoto.
If you’ve only seen the Laurel Van Ness on Impact, your majorly missing out. Chelsea Green is a star on the independent scene. In 2017 alone, Chelsea Green was involved in 13 title matches. Including a shot at the Shimmer Championship in January. Chelsea Green is beyond impressive and solidified her spot as one of the best independent women’s wrestlers in 2017.
