Wrestler of the Year 2017 | Candice LeRae

As the year 2017 comes to an end the Squared Circle Sirens teams will be highlighting different wrestlers from across the globe that we feel have made an impact over the past 365 days! Today we will be looking at Candice LeRae!

Candice LeRae is the babyface, that babyface’s dream of being. It’s hard to find a crowd that easily does not love Candice LeRae, and in 2017, Candice put that to the test.

Candice started 2017 in Japan wrestling for DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro before heading back to the states and challenging for the AAW Heavyweight Championship against Sami Callihan. If you know Candice LeRae, you know that Candice is afraid of no challenger, and regularly puts on Match of the Night Candidates against men and women. Although she would fall short of capturing the AAW Championship, she would come back to AAW and team with Samantha Heights to Defeat Allysin Kay and Jessicka Havok. Candice wouldn’t be back in AAW until their Women’s Championship tournament in which Candice would defeat Britt Baker in the first round but would withdraw in the semi-finals.

Candice has also been an integral part of WrestleCircus, regularly teaming with World’s Cutest Tag Team Partner, Joey Ryan. The pair would defeat Jessicka Havok and Sami Callahan over Wrestlemania weekend and then defeat Ethan Page at the end of the month. The World’s Cutest Tag Team would continue their undefeated 2017 in Wrestle Circus defeating John Morrison and Taya Valkyrie.

2017 would also be a big year in the UK for Candice, being a part of SWE and then FCP in the month of March. Candice would head back to the UK and Ireland at the end of July and would challenge Toni Storm for the Progress Women’s Championship, falling just short in July.

Candice has also been a big part of SHIMMER, and during Wrestlemania Weekend would challenge Mercedes Martinez for the SHIMMER Championship, although falling just short. Candice was also a part of the 96-99 events, picking up two big wins against Charli Evans and Jessica Troy on Volumes 97 and 99 respectively and falling shortt to Tessa Blanchard on Volume 96 and to Veda Scott in a four-way also involving Dust and Shotzi Blackheart.

Candice is also a large part of Bar Wrestling in California. Although she and Joey Ryan would fall short in the first event to Jvelisse and Matt Cross, they would defeat the Killer Baes at Bar 3. Candice would also defeat Tessa Blanchard at Bar 4. The World’s Cutest Tag Team would fall short to Abyss and Rosemary at Bar 5 but would get back on the winning track against Extra Talented at Bar 6 and winning at Bar 7 with Dick Justice against HATE and Swoggle.

Candice also had an impressive showing in WWE in the year of 2017. Although Candice wasn’t (and isn’t) signed, Candice was completely over in an #1 Contendership battle royal for the NXT Women’s Championship, where the crowd was very upset when she was eliminated. Candice would come back to WWE in the Mae Young Classic making it to the quarterfinals of the tournament defeating Renee Michelle and Nicole Savoy before falling to Shayna Baszler.

Candice has had quite the 2017, and it seems that 2018 is another year for Candice to continue to raise the bar and forever be a crowd favorite, making her easily a Wrestler of the Year for 2017.
