It is officially 2017, which means it is time to reflect on the past 365 days. The Squared Circle Sirens staff has come together to create awards for the amazing things that have happened in the world of women’s wrestling in 2016. The writing team has picked their winners, and some personal favorite nominees and we will tell you about those throughout the next few days. But most importantly, we will be opening fan choice awards where you can vote for your favorites in each category. So read on, and be on the lookout for polls in the future. Leave us comments! The first category you will see in separate posts throughout the days. Quite simply, we all could not agree on just one women’s wrestler to watch out for in 2017, and rightfully so. Simply, there are so many amazing talents in women’s wrestling that picking just one would be a disservice. Therefore, each of the writers have picked one person to watch in particular in 2017. And yes, there will be a fan choice too!

While we all saw Dennis’ pick earlier, it’s now Casey’s pick.

Having moved from middle of nowhere New York to Long Island I had the great opprotunity to see some amazing East Coast female wrestlers throughout this year. Girls like Nikki Adams, Sonya Strong, Maria Manic, Penelope Ford, Annie Social, and Deonna Purrazzo became names I was able to see live almost once every month if not more. I saw a plethora of women’s wrestling this year but one women who stood out above the rest is Karen Q.

I first saw Karen Q at a World of Hurt wrestling show in Whitehall, NY where she faced off against Deonna Purrazzo. The match was phenomenal and instantly made me a fan! Her technical skills, her aura, the way she could do a handspring back elbow one second and lock her opponent into a submission a moment later dazzled me. I knew from the moment she stepped into the ring she was something special. Not only did she just have something special about her but her trainers Deonna Purrazzo and Damian Adams had nothing but great things to say about her all over social media and whenever you talked to them.

A few months later I got the opprotunity to see her live again at Fiesta Pro Wrestling in Deer Park, NY. She faced off against Nyla Rose and stole the show. Everyone in the arena got into the match and was at the edge of their seat as they watched near fall after near fall. They had tons of talent on the show but the one name everyone remembered from that show was Karen Q. watch on youtube

Later that weekend in New Jersey Karen competed in the ECWA Super 8 Chickfight Tournament where she would compete against 7 other females fighting to capture the ECWA Women’s Championship held by her rival, Deonna Purrazzo who she attacked at the last ECWA show.

During the tournament Karen Q defeated Aja Perera in the first round and Britt Baker in the second round before falling to Deonna Purrazzo in the finals in what was one of the best matches of 2016 without a doubt.

Karen Q became one of my favorites in 2016 and the sky is the limit for her. Having only been in wrestling for just over 2 years it’s amazing how skilled she is. She has so much talent and is so good at making you love or hate her.

She had an incredible 2016 and she is the epitome of someone you need to keep an eye on in 2017 as it’s only a matter of time before she takes over the wrestling world!
