Squared Circle Sirens End of the Year Awards – One to Watch 2017: Team Sea Stars

It is officially 2017, which means it is time to reflect on the past 365 days. The Squared Circle Sirens staff has come together to create awards for the amazing things that have happened in the world of women’s wrestling in 2016. The writing team has picked their winners, and some personal favorite nominees and we will tell you about those throughout the next few days. But most importantly, we will be opening fan choice awards where you can vote for your favorites in each category. So read on, and be on the lookout for polls in the future. Leave us comments! The first category you will see in separate posts throughout the days. Quite simply, we all could not agree on just one women’s wrestler to watch out for in 2017, and rightfully so. Simply, there are so many amazing talents in women’s wrestling that picking just one would be a disservice. Therefore, each of the writers have picked one person to watch in particular in 2017. And yes, there will be a fan choice too!

And the final one to watch in 2017 comes from Dave

Some might call this cheating, but when it came time for me to pick one to watch, I had to include TWO! If there was one team that really caught my attention in 2016, it was Delmi Exo and Ashley Vox, collectively known as Team Sea Stars. The mermaid duo first became known to me back at CHIKARA’s National Pro Wrestling Day in February. Back then, both of them competed in losing efforts in the Young Lions Cup tournament. However, after that they became regulars in CHIKARA’s tag team division for the rest of 2016. While researching them, I was surprised to learn that both have around 3 years of pro wrestling experience. It was there exposure at CHIKARA though, where they really caught the attention of fans worldwide. They got their first win as a team in CHIKARA in May at The Distance Future where they defeated the Gentleman’s Club. They spent the rest of 2016 getting more and more experience and had another memorable moment with the Gentleman’s Club at Night 3 of King of Trios where they trapped Drew Gulak in a fishing net, which he then walked around in the rest of the night.

Elsewhere, Team Sea Stars made their debut for many other promotions including Beyond, where they teamed with Solo Darling in a losing effort at Tournament for Today. You can watch that match, here.

Another big step Team Sea Stars took this past year was being apart of the first RISE event. With RISE’s role as a developmental company for future SHIMMER talent, it appears that Team Sea Stars could be setting their sights on a possible SHIMMER debut in 2017.

Along with their shark buddy manager, Jawsolyn, it appears the sky’s the limit for the duo. CHIKARA’s roster is very fluid with both Kimber Lee and Heidi Lovelace moving on to NXT, so 2017 could be a very busy year for Ashley Vox and Delmi Exo. The talent is there, the fans like them, and opportunity is knocking. For all those reasons, Team Sea Stars is my ones to watch in 2017.
