You are reading that correctly and it’s not a hoax, Sexy Star made her return to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide tonight and regained the Reina de Reinas Championship for the third time. The win comes right on the heels of Director of Talent, Vampiro’s decision to strip Taya Valkyrie of the championship earlier this month and declared the belt vacant for the third time in its lineage. Vampiro explained his reasoning for taking the title of Valkyrie at tonight’s show in Monterrey. He stated again that the two-time champion wouldn’t defend the belt, thus leading him to strip her of the belt. A match was made with Faby Apache, La Hiedra, Big Mami, Goya Kong, Lady Shani and Sexy Star all competing for the vacant title, but in the end, it would be Sexy Star that would ultimately win the championship.
Sexy Star is now tied with former champion, Tiffany for the most reigns as Reina de Reinas Champion with three. Star’s return to AAA has not only stirred up controversy but has made this “simple” business decision by Vampiro come across as disingenuous and underhanded. Last February, Sexy Star had relinquished the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles and reportedly walked out on the promotion after quitting – this all led to a bunch of “he said, she said” reports online from various personal within AAA and Star herself. It was later reported that Star had contacted AAA’s offices and said that she was retiring from professional wrestling to jump into boxing. She unmasked herself and even had her boxing debut earlier this year whilst working indy dates for SHIMMER under her name, Dulce Garcia.
Star last held the championship back in February of 2013 when she was forced to vacate it due to her pregnancy. She had been holding the title for over a year then, winning it back in December of 2011. It’s a sticky situation and it looks like AAA has taken the cheap way out to resolve this issue by bringing in one of their biggest stars to win a title she had never lost.
