REVIEW: Ember Moon Eclipses Peyton Royce on NXT

Ember Moon took on the Iconic Peyton Royce in a short a sweet match on tonight’s episode of NXT. Moon landed her patented Eclipse, Royce did some of her patented cartoony selling, and Moon successfully went for the pinfall. The match felt a little short, but it filled its time with some good bits (during and after the match).

First of all, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the evolution of Ember Moon’s look. She started out looking like a cross between Storm and a bad-ass Mortal Kombat character, and now she’s looking more like a character from Xena: Warrior Princess. And I gotta say, I’m loving it.

While watching the Iconic Duo walk out to the ring, I found myself wishing they would just let them be a Kayfabe couple. I think the world is ready. Either way, I greatly enjoy Royce’s in-ring performance. Her Venus Fly-Trap move is cool as hell, and I love her little fits of anger. She shouted “I hate you!” at Ember Moon at one point during the match. And Royce’s selling is over-the-top in the best way, the way she flops about the ring like if Olive Oil was a wrestler. Just so entertaining.

Moon pins Royce, then Billie Kay hits her with a Shades of Kay! The Iconic Duo then take turns working Moon, and she is saved by… Nikki Cross? But why?

I like to think it’s because SAnitY really detests rule-breaking. But the way Cross was eyeing the Women’s Championship belt, I think we might have our next contender.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! Or read the spoilers, whichever.
