Earlier today, WWE announced the first 4 competitors of the upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament: indie stars Toni Storm and Princesa Sugehit, as well as current NXT Superstars Lacey Evans and Sarah Logan. As reported by Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE is contacting a former Women’s Superstar to compete in the tournament: Straight Edge Society member Serena Deeb.
There have been talks about Deeb coming out of retirement for the tournament, though nothing has been finalized yet. Deeb was part of then-developmental territories Ohio Valley Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling from 2005 – 2009, before debuting on the main roster alongside CM Punk and current WWE Superstar Luke Gallows in 2010. She would only have one televised match on SmackDown before her 2011 release from WWE.
Deeb did officially retire from professional wrestling in 2015, shortly after appearing at Impact Wrestling in a losing effort teaming with James Storm against Magnus and Mickie James. There have been many wondering who would fill the role of a veteran and former WWE talent in the tournament, and Deeb may be the one if everything goes to plan.
What are you thoughts on Serena Deeb possibly returning to a WWE ring? Do you think she’d be a great choice for the Mae Young Classic? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to Squared Circle Sirens for the latest in women’s wrestling!
