On October 22nd, 2016, ECWA will be hosting the ECWA Super 8 ChickFight Tournament. Eight women will be competing in Woodbridge New Jersey to reign supreme. Leading up to this event, the Squared Circle Sirens staff will be talking with the competitors of the tournament.
I was able to speak with Girl on Fire, Kiera Hogan
Dennis:Could you tell us more about yourself and what made you want to become a professional wrestler?
Kiera Hogan: Well my name is Kiera Hogan. I am 22 years old, and I am based out of Atlanta, Georgia. I knew I wanted to become a professional wrestler at the age of 14. I was a fan growing up. When I wanted to become a professional wrestler, I looked it up and Mr. Hughes wrestling school popped up. I knew that’s where I want to go, it was close to home, and it had great reviews. I’ve had a lot of people to inspire me to follow my dream of becoming a professional wrestler. And I’m glad that I’ve been able to do so thus far.
Dennis: Who were your inspirations growing up and currently?
Kiera Hogan: I’ve always idolized Mickie James. She has always been a big inspiration to me. I love her energy, I love the way she works, and I think she is an amazing wrestler. But of course, a lot of females from that time inspire me. Currently, one of the people that inspires me is my boyfriend, Owen Knight. He is the one who pushed me to get into training because I was not allowed at the time to train. He’s the one who’s helped me the most along the way and I appreciate all the time and effort he’s put into my career.
Dennis: You touched on this a bit earlier, but can you elaborate on where were/are you training and how long you have been training?
Kiera Hogan I’m always training. It makes you better to know that you can always better yourself. I trained at WWA4 for about a year and a half. I was trained by Total Protection Mr. Hughes at that school before he left. Then I followed him to his new facility and I still do train with him. I’ve been training for about two years and I’ve been in the business for about three.
Dennis: Onto the Super 8 Chickfight Tournament, The Super 8 tournament has been a platform for 20 years, giving many of today’s superstars a platform to compete. What would winning the Super 8 mean to you?
Kiera Hogan: It would mean the world to me! I’ve seen what it’s done for the past two winners Deonna Purrazzo, and Tessa Blanchard. I watched the tournament for the past two years and I think I have a good chance of winning. I’m also very excited to work with all of the girls that are in the tournament especially Rachel Ellering. Squared Circle Sirens actually covered the try out that I was in, and at that try out Rachel had not started wrestling yet. So it’s crazy to see where she is and how accomplished she is now. I would be honored to wrestle her because I’ve seen her pretty much grow. So I’m thrilled to be a part of this tournament!
Dennis:This years Women’s Super 8 Chickfight Tournament has women coming from all over the U.S. Is there anyone in the tournament you are particular looking forward to having a chance to compete with? You mentioned, Rachel Ellering earlier, why Rachel? Does anyone else stand out to you?
Kiera Hogan: Well all the girls I’m excited to work with. I only say Rachel first because of where we both started. We both started at our tryout at very early stages in our careers. So to see where we both are now, it’ll be really exciting to see us work together. I’m really excited to work with Deonna Purrazzo especially because she was the one who asked me personally to be a part of the tournament. I’ve never worked with her, and for her to see something in me to be a part of this tournament is very exciting. I’m also excited to work with Britt Baker I’ve never worked with her, but we have talked on Instagram before and I’m very excited to meet her. I am also from the same state as Aja Perera, we have only worked together twice so I’m excited to be able to work with her again. I’ve only met Maria Manic at a show in Memphis but I didn’t get a chance to work with her. I’m excited to work with everyone that is a part of the tournament but those are just a few that I am more familiar with.
Dennis: Do you have anything to say to your fellow competitors and the fans coming to the event?
Kiera Hogan: ECWA, What you are about to witness is the girl on fire. Seven will fail, burn, and hail the girl on fire Kiera Hogan. Third Times a charm, and this charm will represent the flame. Ladies let me introduce myself, my name is Kiera Hogan, and you all are going to watch me set fire and claim the title as ECWA Women’s Champion!
