ECWA Super 8 Chickfight Tournament: Meet Karen Q

On October 22nd, 2016, ECWA will be hosting the ECWA Super 8 ChickFight Tournament. Eight women will be competing in Woodbridge New Jersey to reign supreme. Leading up to this event, the Squared Circle Sirens staff will be talking with the competitors of the tournament.

I was able to speak to Karen Q on her upcoming participation in the event.

Jason: Tell us about yourself. What made you decide to become a professional wrestler?

Karen Q: I am Chinese American born and raised in Queens, NY. I was a gymnast for 12 years and an overall athlete as a kid. I’ve also played volleyball and did diving at the collegiate level. Besides watching wrestling as a kid, I really wanted to be a wrestler when I attended Wrestlemania 30 in New Orleans. I watched the women’s match and told myself that I could do what those women could do. I signed up for wrestling school a week later.

Jason: Who were your inspirations growing up?

Karen Q: Growing up, I loved watching Stone Cold and The Rock. They are absolutely the most entertaining people in the business. However, the women’s division during the attitude era with leaders such as Chyna, Trish Stratus, and Lita were inspirational to not only me but to most women wrestlers today. I remember I wanted to dye my hair blonde and try moonsaults off the coach.

Jason: Where were you/are you training? How long have you been wrestling?

Karen Q: I’ve been wrestling for just about two years now and currently train at two different locations. I started and currently train at the World of Unpredictable wrestling under Johnny Rodz. I also train at Team Adams Academy under Damian Adams. Both trainers are extremely knowledgeable and I always walk out of training learning something new.

Jason: The Super 8 tournament has been a platform for 20 years, giving many of today’s superstars a platform to compete. What would winning the Super 8 mean to you?

Karen Q: Winning the ECWA Super 8 would be the highlight of my wrestling career. To be put in a tournament with seven other amazing competitors sets the bar extremely high and helps give my name a lot of value. I’ve wrestled a few times at ECWA and to see myself win it all would prove that consistency and hard work can persevere in any way, shape, or form. I am already grateful to be a contestant, but to win it all would just be the icing on a cake.

Jason: This years Women’s Super 8 Chickfight Tournament has women coming from all over the U.S. Is there anyone in the tournament you are particular looking forward to having a chance to compete with?

Karen Q: All of the women entered in the tournament seem to be very tough and talented. But because Deonna Purrazzo and I have wrestled each other before and have a history at ECWA, I’m hoping to wrestle her again to showcase all that we’ve got and to put on the best match of our life. I would also love to compete against Kiera Hogan and Rachel Ellering as they are the happenin’ talent in today’s scene. As challenging as they may be, I believe I can put up a great fight with any of these women.
