A Look At The ECWA Super 8 Chickfight 2017 Tournament Competitors

ECWA will present the 4th annual ECWA Women’s Super 8 Chickfight Tournament on Saturday, October 21st, 2017 in Woodbury Heights, New Jersey at the Woodbury Heights Community Center. Eight women will compete in a one-night single elimination tournament to determine who is the best of the best. Over the last several weeks the eight participants have been revealed.

The first participant announced for the tournament was Christina Marie, a powerlifter, and wrestler based out of Albany, New York. Having cut her teeth in upstate New York working for promotions such as World of Hurt Wrestling, and The Dynasty where she has done battle with fellow ECWA Super 8 Chickfight Tournament participant Skylar, her inclusion in the tournament will mark her highest profile booking to date. She will face off against 2 time back to back ECWA Super 8 Chickfight Tournament winner Deonna Purrazzo for PAPW Wrestling on September 23rd.

The second participant was announced as 22-year old New Jersey-based wrestler, Allie Recks. Coming off the heels of a successful debut for Women’s Wrestling Revolution where she defeated Nadi in the opening contest of ‘The Show Must Go On’ Recks is looking to continue her momentum after coming back from a knee injury that left her out of the ring for about a year. Wrestling for promotions such as W.O.W in Staten Island, BCW, Tier 1 Wrestling, and PPW to name a few she is looking to win this year’s Super 8 Chickfight Tournament to cement her name as one of the East Coast’s top wrestlers.

Another name for the tournament and probably one of the biggest names to participate in the tournament is Mae Young Classic competitor and former TNA Knockout Santana Garrett from Ocala, Florida. The 8 year veteran of the ring is looking to add yet another accolade to her impressive resume which already entails being a former SHINE Champion, A former SHINE Tag Team Champion, A former Wonder of STARDOM Champion, and a former NWA Women’s Champion just to name a few. Winning the STARDOM International Grand Prix in 2016 the current reigning WOW Champion is no stranger to winning tournaments. Can she rack up a win in October over seven other women?

21-year-old Skylar has also been announced as one of the competitors in this year’s tournament. While she’s only been wrestling for a little over a year she has quickly become a fan favorite in almost every promotion she has wrestled for, especially in Women’s Wrestling Revolution where she has had standout matches against Terra Calaway and Willow Nightingale. Over the summer she had an impressive outing against Mia Yim at Blitzkrieg Pro. She’s scored victories over Jeremy Leary, Tyler Nitro, and Cam Zagami in Limitless Pro Wrestling, making her the top female talent in the company. She also holds the Pioneer Valley Pro Women’s Championship.

ECWA’s own Karen Q will also be one of the eight participants vying for the win. After coming up short in the finals of last years tournament where she fell to Deonna Purrazzo in the final round in a match that went well over 20 minutes Karen is looking to take the trophy home this year. Karen and Deonna’s feud has spilled over to Women of Honor and one would have to imagine it might get re-ignited in ECWA during this tournament. She has had a standout year in 2017, debuting for promotions such as Women’s Wrestling Revolution, and ROH where she is undefeated to this day. Can she top off this year with a victory in the tournament?

28-year-old Samantha Heights was revealed as one of the eight names. Having become one of the standouts in the wrestling scene this year competing for promotions such as WSU, Queens of Combat, and SHIMMER. While she came up short in the AAW Women’s Title tournament her stock in wrestling continues to rise as she breaks into new promotions almost weekly and time and time again steals the show with the matches she has.

Bringing some international flavor to the tournament is Canadian Kaitlin Diemond. Having debuted back in 2010 the 27-year-old is no stranger to international competition having competed in Mexico for promotions like WWS and LLF, competing in Japan for STARDOM, in the UK for the BEW promotion, and even participated in German Wrestling Federation’s women’s title tournament in Berlin, Germany.

And lastly, the woman who made history winning the ECWA Super 8 Chickfight Tournament back to back in 2015 and 2016, The only person to win back to back ECWA tournaments in 20 years, Deonna Purrazzo. Arguably the most decorated wrestler to step foot inside an ECWA ring she won 2016 wrestler of the year, 2016 most popular wrestler of the year, most shocking moment of the year, and best match of the year (along with Karen Q for the ECWA Chickfight 2016 Tournament match) in the ECWA fan voting last year. She will return to ECWA for the first time since June. Since the tournament last year Deonna has been riding a wave of momentum wrestling for STARDOM in Japan, making her debut for SHIMMER, RISE, and PROGRESS alongside recently wrestling for Bellatrix in England at Warrior’s Rise where she defeated Shax. Will Deonna continue to make history winning the tournament for the third year in a row?

Eight women will do battle on Saturday, October 21st, 2017 in Woodbury Heights, New Jersey at the Woodbury Heights Community Center.
