2015 is in the bag and over the last few weeks we polled our readers on who they thought were the best in 2015. The polls have been closed and the votes have been tallied! Who won? Let’s find out!
2015 was a great year for females on the independent scene. With a renewed focus on women’s wrestling in the wrestling world many fans started to watch more indies. The ladies of the independents made quite an impact this year but none made quite the impact that the women who you voted independent wrestler of the year did, Santana Garrett.
On February 7th, 2015, Garrett defeated Barbi Hayden to win the NWA World Women’s Championship and went on to hold the title for a total of 314 days and defended the belt 43 times. She also captured the SHINE championship from Mia Yim at SHINE 26 and held the title for 252 days until being defeated by Taylor Made. She also captured the CWE Vixen’s title, the NPW Women’s Championship, the OPW Women’s Championship, and the Battling Bombshells Championship.
Santana also made her way to Japan for a tour of STARDOM in 2015 and she even managed to capture the Wonder of STARDOM title from Io Shirai.
Santana made 2015 her year and I’m sure 2016 will be a good year for her too. She’s scheduled to return to STARDOM this year and she clearly has unfinished business in SHINE with Valkyrie.
