2015 is in the bag and over the last few weeks we polled our readers on who they thought were the best in 2015. The polls have been closed and the votes have been tallied! Who won? Let’s find out!
With names like Rain, Mercedes Martinez, AJ Lee, Kaitlyn, Eve, Layla and Hailey Hatred, and more retiring over the last few years and Jessie McKay, Athena, and Kana being signed to WWE theirs been lots of opportunities for women on the wrestling scene to breakout and become a big name in the world of wrestling. Names like Su Yung, Deonna Purrazzo, Eva Marie, and Emma had great years but it was Kimber Lee who you readers voted as breakout star of the year.
It was near impossible to not hear about Kimber Lee in 2015. She captured the headlines through the year winning a title in almost every promotion she was apart of and dominating the tag team scene in women’s wrestling with her tag team partner Cherry Bomb.
Kimber Lee held a total of six championship belts in 2015 but perhaps the most important belt she won in 2015 was the CHIKARA grand championship which she won from Hallowicked. Winning the belt marked the first time that a female has ever won the championship and marked the firsttime a women won a world title in a major non-female wrestling promotion.
While she’s been a name on the indies for a few years 2015 was a big breakout year for Kimber Lee. Her matches at Beyond Wrestling gained major social media views and her win at CHIKARA earned her a RollingStone interview.
With 2015 in the bag 2016 looks to be an even better year for Kimber Lee. She now sits atop of the CHIKARA roster as the company’s champion and her tag team partner Cherry Bomb will soon be returning to the ring from injury. The future looks bright for Kimber Lee.
